Caught between Cladding is an ongoing photographic series. Davidson was initially drawn to images on cladding around his local neighbourhood in East London. The cladding advertised interiors of the flats currently in construction behind the walls. Lewis noticed that the images of these clean and at times luxurious indoor spaces were often blocked and obstructed by fencing, traffic cones and other outdoor tools used during the construction process. Photographing the tools in front of the images, Davidson is able to seal and sandwich the objects between the found image and the taken one. Through this simple yet slippery method of collage and displacement, notions of authenticity, class and belonging are pulled into play.
